  • Toulon, France, October 4, 2017 – Kontron, a leading global provider of Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), introduces TRACe V40x-TR, a new fanless computer specifically designed for IP-based video surveillance on passenger trains. TRACe can store, process and analyze imagery in real time, or stream video recorded by surveillance cameras. In standard configurations, the robust TRACe V40x-TR is compliant with the EN50155 standard for electronic equipment on rolling stock and provides outstanding performance, reliability, and storage capacity for demanding railway environments.

TRACe V407-TR is based on a 6th Generation Skylake Intel® Core™ i7-6600U (dual Core @ 2,6 GHz) processor with soldered 8GB DDR4 memory and 32GB SLC Flash; TRACe V403-TR is based on an Intel Core i3-6100U @ 2x2,3 GHz processor. The TRACe V40x-TR family features two independent networks with M12 connectors for recording IP camera video streams. Power supplies range from 24 VDC to 110 VDC nominal input voltage, accommodating all types of railway vehicles from light rail vehicles to high-speed trains. The front plate provides two isolated and lockable M12 connectors, meeting the EN50155 standard. The rear plate hosts standard connectors for maintenance: Display Port, USB 3.0/2.0, and Serial lines. Additionally, TRACe V40x-TR can be equipped with several wireless interfaces, field busses such as RS422/485, CAN, or MVB, as well as optional I/Os such as DIOs, Audio, and USB. The TRACe V40x-TR meets all railway application requirements including on-board CCTV, entertainment and infotainment passenger information systems (PIS), as well as train control and management systems (TCMS).

TRACe comes with two removable drive bays, enabling a storage capacity of up to 4TB (with dual 2TB industrial SSDs). One model can be equipped with up to 8TBs of storage capacity thanks to 2x optional additional removable drive bays. The SSDs indicate their operating status via LEDs and can be replaced during operation (“Hot-plug”). Moreover, the drive bays are lockable and application data security is provided by RAID 0/1/5 capability.

A health management unit ensures smooth operation, continously monitoring the most important functions with multiple sensors. An integrated microcontroller which is independent from the main processor monitors several temperature sensors, controls supply voltages and current, and traces the status of major components with Vital Product Data. Kontron Health Management Software Package covers all vital TRACe resources required to report, log, and transmit any information and event during operation. Health Management data are accessible locally, via Ethernet/Intranet, or via Internet/Cloud. They enable data analytics to support asset management, preventive maintenance, and fleet management that can be provided by CMON-line monitoring solution by Kontron.

TRACe V40x-TR supports Kontron’s security solution, APPROTECT, powered by Wibu. This solution is based on an integrated Wibu security chip and offers comprehensive security mechanisms such as IP and copy protection while avoiding reverse engineering.

  • Passengers and rail operators benefit from advanced, field-proven technologies that provide real-time information and management for an informed, safe travel experience

ATLANTA, GA October 9, 2017 Kontron, a leading global provider of embedded computing technology (ECT), today announced that its TRACe™ transportation computing products have been chosen by Centum Adetel Transportation Solution (CATS) for its complete information solution.  A leading system integrator of advanced embedded transportation systems, Centum Adetel Transportation Solution selected Kontron’s TRACe products based on their field-proven performance and COTS open architecture that can be easily adapted to the requirements of operations in the rail environment. The enhanced information, entertainment and security features enabled by Kontron TRACe products and Centum Adelel Transportation Solution’s complete communication system design benefit both operators and its passengers.

This cutting-edge solution has just been chosen to be deployed on the next generation of high-speed trains in the US Northeast Corridor, and on a new suburban train project in California. Using Kontron TRACe-V304-TR fanless Network Video Controllers and TRACe-G304 fanless Wireless Gateways, the system has been optimized to handle multiple sub-systems while maintaining a high degree of availability. Both are designed for harsh rail environments, where the Kontron TRACe-V provides high performance, high reliability and high capacity video recording data storage, and the TRACe-G is a certified Gateway enabling data connectivity to wayside back-office operation systems. The cohesive, total system from Centum Adetel provides many advantages. The operator will realize improved fleet information management, real-time information access and broadcast message priority management with hearing impaired assistance. Security is enhanced from a broad surveillance system that offers complete CCTV coverage. System maintenance is also simplified from a common interface for all equipment.

TRACe products support all infotainment and video surveillance sub-systems, which include a PIS (Passenger Information System) with LED and LCD displays and a VSS (Video Surveillance System) that supports multiple digital cameras with varying lens configurations and a large storage capacity. Also included in the Centum Adetel Transportation Solution system is a PAS/ICS (Public Address System/Intercom System) that delivers multiple peripheral functions such as an intercom, interior and exterior speakers and an inductive loop and handset for crew personal as well as an analog backup solution.

“We’ve developed a complete communications system that contributes to a well-informed and safe travel experience that makes rail travel much more attractive,” said Benoît Meynel, CEO at Centum Adetel Transportation Solution. “What better demonstration of the reliable, value-added features we integrate than to be installed on one of the most technically-advanced trains designed today. Using Kontron’s open-architecture products, the new Centum Adetel Transportation Solution system is future-proofed and fully certified to all rolling stock applications giving the operators peace-of-mind while helping them cut costs by using its existing infrastructure.”

“At Kontron, our proven experience puts us in a unique position to meet the increasing requirements of connected embedded transportation systems.
